Rice-based farming systems in Bangladesh have been diversifying and changing with an expansion of monoculture commercial aquaculture farming (CAF) in rice fields over the past decades, in particular of fish, shrimp, and prawn. This paper examines the transformation in rice-based agricultural systems and the implications of CAF for gender roles and relations and household food security.
